The Social Dilemma

 Recently in class, we watched The Social Dilemma. I have to start by stating that this was a really well- made documentary and the people that were in this film did a great job of being transparent and dumbing most of the information down to make it more easily understood. For the most part, it seemed that the people that were sharing their thoughts and information had their own experiences with the big-time corporations and companies that are responsible for much of the access to social media we all have at the forefront of our fingertips today.

I will be honest in saying that this documentary gave me some kind of fear that I can't explain. Just like you and everyone else, I find myself on social media a lot more than I want to admit. With that being said, I think that everyone that uses social media does so with different purposes. If I'm bored, I'll most likely get on TikTok to hopefully find something funny. If I want to see something specific like a longer video, then I'll go to YouTube. If I want news, I'll go to Twitter. I don't find myself scrolling and scrolling and feeling like I can't find a way to get off of any platform.

This documentary really shined a light on the bad, negative, and downright the most scary things about social media. I really didn't know it was as bad, and like I said before, the acting was excellent. When the mother of her kids placed their phones into a jar with a lock on it, I just knew that the son wouldn't be able to overcome his addiction. I was right, and eventually he found his way right back to it. This really caught my attention because it made me think to myself if I could really go a week without my phone, and I bet I couldn't. I would love to try.

In my opinion, it's somehow going to keep getting worse. People don't even know what's real or what to believe anymore. Artificial Intelligence is well on its way, deep fakes are already prevalent, and most everytime there's a heavy-weighing event in society occuring, something bad or negative happens due to social media and the manipulation of its users.

I would watch this documentary again in my free time to catch things I didn't the first time. I am confident in saying that this should be shown in classrooms ranging from college down to middle and even elementary schools.

    Hi Cade, I completely agree with you on this! After watching this movie I think the whole social media process is scary, and I learned a lot from watching it! this was my second time watching this movie and I learn more and more every time.

    Honestly if I had to go a week without my phone, I don't think I would be able to either. I agree that we should be showing this documentary to a younger audience. It's scary because everyone that's younger than us will have grown up using electronics and not knowing anything different.

 I don't know about you, but spring break felt like a summer tease. I was feeling super optimistic about nearly everything, the vibes were good, I was excited about being halfway through the semester, and then I came back to school. In chapter six we are going to learn the ins and outs of Twitter. This app was first introduced in 2006 by Jack Dorsey. His ultimate idea was coming up with and forming a platform where people could update others in around 140 characters. Today, according to the book, a whopping 465 million people actively use Twitter every month and more than half a billion tweets are shared each day. Benefits of Blogging

     Hello everyone!      After reading chapter 12 a question comes to my mind.. If you could choose one form of blogging to have a career around which would it be? Blogging, vlogging, or podcasting? I have watched many vlogs on youtube and over the past couple of years people have started posting vlogs on TikTok and these vlogs are much shorter in time but still a good experience. I like to watch vlogs by people especially when they are travelling somewhere that I one day would like to go. Of course, the only difference between a vlog and a blog is that a vlog is a video so for some it may be more enjoyable to watch rather than to read the more traditional blog, but both are great nonetheless. Podcasts have rapidly come a long way and I appreciate them. Sports and true crime podcasts are my favorite and I prefer listening to them on a long roadtrip or while I am doing homework.
