Update on Stanley Cup Playoffs

After the first week of playoff play, some teams have a really good chance of moving on to the next round and getting closer to playing for the Stanley Cup while others can see their chances becoming slimmer and slimmer each day.

The Carolina Hurricanes are up three games to one on the New York Islanders and are one win away from moving on. They have looked exactly the way the series is looking right now- dominant. Another team that is winning at the same pace as the Hurricanes are the Boston Bruins. I would be lying to you if I said the world is shocked by this, as they set the record for the most wins ever in a season. The underdog Florida Panthers stole game two away from the Bruins but games one, three and four have all been ugly for them. Boston is elite.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are up two games to one over the Tampa Bay Lightning. After the game one beat down, the narrative was quickly that Toronto would be out in the minimum four games. They lost game one in disgusting fashion, 7-3. Well, they came back and scored seven of their own goals to win game two, 7-4. In game three, they won in an overtime thriller, 4-3. The Maple Leafs are halfway to winning the series, something they would rather not discuss. Game four will tell the truth.

The New York Rangers were close to having a three game advantage over New Jersey, but the Devils fought hard and got the win in overtime Saturday night. The Rangers have looked like the better team, but this series has potential to go further than most people thought.

The Las Vegas Knights have a one game lead over the Jets from Winnipeg. A game one loss has flipped into two consecutive wins for the Knights. Game four lasted nearly two overtime periods, as Vegas scored and won with just under four minutes in the second overtime. Winnipeg has been in contention to win more than once and has probably should've, but just haven't sealed the deal. Winnipeg also lost one of their best, John Morrisey early in game three and he won't be playing in game four.

The Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken is a pretty fun series so far. The Avalanche have the one game advantage, two games to one. I think one thing that is certainly in Colorado's favor is the amount of playoff experience they have. Seattle has been good, but not good enough.

The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild are tied with two wins each through four games. Wow, this series has been insane. One of the hardest hits was taken by Dallas Star, Joe Pavelski, and he has been out with a concussion ever since. The physicality has been there each game. This series has the recipe to go as long as possible, seven games.

Last but not least, the Edmonton Oilers are tied with the Los Angeles Kings at two games each through four games. If you're looking for excitement, this series has that and more. Through four games, three have gone to overtime. It just seems like one team gets an edge and tries to pull away but the other team won't let them. It's the epitome of playoff hockey.

  1. Chase Coburn:
yeaaaa, I honestly thought the Islanders were going to come in hot from barely sneaking in the playoffs, but that is not the case. My Leafs are up 3-1, but I have seen that story before. And the Avs and Oilers are playing with fire because these two teams should win, but the Kings are so well-rounded. Kraken are just buzzing, but they keep blowing leads.

  2. Wow! You sure keep up to date on sports. I played many varsity sports in high school but I do not keep up with the NFL, NBA, MLB or any of the other major sports leagues. Do only follow hockey or do you like other sports as well? Do you play hockey? I would love to learn how to play hockey!

My podcast with Hannah Brown

Last semester in Principles of PR we had the same assignment as we do now with the podcast. At that time I had no idea who would be a good guest for me to have but luckily Dr. Aggie hooked me up with an excellent person in Hannah Brown. She is a PR practitioner who works with pretty much exactly what we talk about in this class; social media and marketing along with PR too, of course. I enjoyed douing this podcast because I feel like I had more flexibility to dig deeper into social media and even she said there is a big difference from the PR side of things stricly to the social media side.  Considering that this podcast only had to be 5 minutes at the least, I came up with 5 questions for her. She expla...

Ready To Get It Over With

I don't know about you, but spring break felt like a summer tease. I was feeling super optimistic about nearly everything, the vibes were good, I was excited about being halfway through the semester, and then I came back to school. For the most part, I'd say I'm happy, but at this point, I'm just ready to get it over with. Deep in the back of my mind I can just feel that the remainder of the semester isn't going to be easy whatsoever. There are still midterms, and before I know it, it will be time for final exams. As I was walking to my classes today I was trying to motivate myself by thinking that no other day will be as hard as today. Coming back from break can be difficult and getting back into a groove can feel like it's impossible. I hope I'm not alone in saying that this week is a great week to get back into shape. With that being said, I hope everyone had a good spring break and enjoyed doing what makes you happy with people that make you happy. The Master of The Masters

The most prestigious golf tournament took place over the weekend in Augusta, Georgia. This tournament, which is the Masters, is much like the Super Bowl or the World Series in the sense that whoever wins it definitely deserved to win it and also to be apart and play in it. The best golfers in the world battle the already tough course under sunny and dry conditions, but when the weather becomes bad, good golf becomes difficult for many. Jon Rahm played his best golf at the perfect time, which was Sunday, the final day of the tournament. You obviously need to play great from the time the tournament starts, which is Thursday, and be consistent everyday and every round if you want to have a shot at the green jacket and a nice payday on Sunday. Going into the final day, many believed Brooks Koepka would seal the deal. Others were picking Rahm due to his momentum. Kopeka started off great but declined as time went on. He had a two-shot lead over Rahm going into Sunday and like I said, many w...
