As the clock hit 0:00 and Jalen Hurts' attempt at a hail mary fell short, the Kansas City Chiefs were Super Bowl LVII (57) champions. As a whole, the 2022-2023 NFL season was one for the books. The same could be said about the Super Bowl itself.
The game started with an outstanding national anthem by country music star, Chris Stapleton. As soon as I saw the Eagles' head coach crying I knew it was going to be a meme for many years to come. With that being said, I truly understood his emotion. He's about to coach in the Super Bowl!
The game was remarkable. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback, threw for 3 touchdowns and led Kansas City to their 2nd Super Bowl title in 4 years. Late in the 2nd quarter, he hurt his ankle and it appeared he was not going to be able to continue playing. He toughed it out, got some good pain medication, and put the team on his back. Anyone that watches football will tell you that he is definitely the best quarterback in the NFL. After winning his 2nd MVP in 5 years, he matched it by winning both his 2nd Super Bowl and 2nd Super Bowl MVP. His resume is already hall of fame worthy without a doubt.
Jalen Hurts, Eagles quarterback, had 4 touchdowns. He threw for 1 and ran for 3. His 3 rushing touchdowns tied the Super Bowl record, with Terrelle Davis, Denver Broncos running back in Super Bowl 32, and was the most by any quarterback in Super Bowl history. He played extremely well and I really thought the Eagles were going to pull off this win.
Unfortunately, the game came down to a flag with around a minute to go in the game. The penalty was obvious so there was no need to blame the refs for this one. The player that committed this penalty, James Bradburry, even admitted to doing so. This put the game in a situation where the Chiefs could hold the ball nearly until the very end and kick a fairly easy field goal to take a 38-35 lead. This gave the Eagles the ball with 1 last shot and the pain of losing settled in shortly thereafter.
If you were like me, all you were asking for was a good game. There have been a number of recent Super Bowls where the game just wasn't all that great. Without a doubt, this game was one of the best in quite a long time.
I agree. In the Super Bowl, it's either hit or miss. The past two super bowls have been pretty good. When I was watching, I saw that flag come out on the holding for the chiefs, and my first thought was rigged. But after watching it, he did tug his jersey, but I hate how it came down to that play too.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Cade! I personally loved the Super Bowl this year and was one of the best ones I have ever seen!
